My 5 Untruths About Cannabis

By Paul A Philips

For many years I’ve carried certain untruths regarding cannabis. However, recently I’ve managed to shake off its so called bad reputation through reading some compelling evidence debunking those false claims used to justify the bad reputation and criminalisation. Plus there is overwhelming support for its health benefits.

At the time of writing this article there are 2 states in the USA that legalise it, while other states still make it an illegal substance. No doubt, the latter still carries deeply ingrained scare tactics like that from anti-cannabis campaigners such as Harry Anslinger who was quoted saying: “Smoke marihuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid spectres…”

It has been said that such unfounded claims really do not stand the test of scrutiny. Consistent with some of the most popular arguments against legalization, here are my 5 untruths about cannabis.

1. Cannibis is a step towards a life of crime

In some circumstances, tell people not to do something, make it illegal, then what do they do? They do the opposite, right? This in effect is what has happened by criminalising cannabis while contrary to mainstream media publications, the blanket statement that cannabis leads to crime is untrue. Statistical caveats can be found to debunk this statement. Take for example, the publication ‘PLOS One.’ During1990 to 2006 studies showed no relationship between crime and cannabis for personal medicinal use. In fact, crime figures either stayed the same or dropped.

2. Taking cannabis leads to harder drugs

The gateway theory; that taking this substance leads to harder dangerous addictive drugs such as heroin does not hold water either. This has about as much truth as saying all those who wear jeans will become heroin addicts in time. Meaning, wearing jeans or taking cannabis has no cause and effect relationship tied to heroin addiction. There is also no cause and effect relationship tied to experimenting with other substances. The Rand Institute has documented this from their many studies. Then there are the ‘Dutch Coffee Shop’ studies…

3. No health benefits

The US official Federal stand is that cannabis is dangerous and has no health benefits. Nothing could be further from the truth. Acceptance of effective medicinal use continues to grow: legalization is anticipated in a number of states before the 2015 election.

Health benefits include anti-cancerous effects by reducing tumours and as a treatment for glaucoma.

4. …but it’s addictive isn’t it?

Addiction has been misunderstood by getting tied into lifestyle habits. Just because someone is unkempt, scruffily dressed, dirty, unshaven or hard up for cash, giving someone the idea of a stereotypical drug user and takes cannabis doesn’t mean that the person is addicted. One study showed that cannabis is much less addictive than tobacco, alcohol or well known legal drugs (James C Anthony et al Experimental and Clinical Psycho pharmacology 1994. Vol. 2, No. 3, 244-268).

It should also be noted that this study was criticised. Due to bad science the 9% addiction claim was found to be misleadingly incorrect and in actuality much lower. It should also be remembered that the medicinal benefits were not known at the time. If it had been known then addiction might not have been confused with medicinal use… The same comments can be made for other similar studies.

5. Users lack so much energy…

The idea that users are lazy or lacking in energy is a myth. A small percentage of people have amotivational syndrome (a lack of motivation). Research has found that in comparison, the percentage of individuals with this syndrome in a non-user population was about the same as those in the cannabis user population (By David F Duncan, Psychology of Addictive Behaviours, Volume 1(2), 1987, 114-119). This confirms that cannabis had no significant effects on a lack of motivation.

This study effectively shakes off the prejudices’ that can be attributed to stoners. More and more data is coming to light which favours the legalization of cannabis, which could well blow away the bias or false stigmas attached to users.

My Top 5 Vital Life-Saving Health Tips!

By Paul A Philips

What would you like to see improved in your health?

Go on, stay with me; take some time to consider this. What are the changes needed to make it happen? Maybe you’ll want to write something down..?

To make those changes a simple, purposeful, systematic and dedicated approach is needed and must include 5 things. It could be said that they are the 5 best tips anyone could ever give when it comes to staying healthy. Not in any particular order, here are those top 5 vital life-saving health tips for optimum health vitality and disease prevention.

1. Maintain a daily diet of 7 a day fruits and vegetables

I know I’m chanting the nutritional mantra here but anyone following this long term is sure to reap the benefits. It’s better to chose raw food because this food, when cooked, frozen or processed may lose nutritional value by losing its original molecular form (denatured) and not be able to take part in metabolism.

2. Drink plenty of water

If put on the spot I would say that this is the biggest health tip you could ever give!

That’s because between the choices of so many different drinks these days: way too high sugar galore options like fizzy pops and smoothies, or mash-mallow coffees with 2 inches thick cream on top, energy boosters… etc., water seems like a bland option but when taken in plentiful quantities has a whole range of health benefits and serves as a prevention or remedy for so many illnesses.

This includes; good skin, teeth and nails, healthy joints, nervous function, intestinal health, good kidney function, lowering high blood pressure, diabetes prevention, preventing mental disorders, for example it has been found that schizophrenics are severely dehydrated,… There are many ‘drought diseases’ brought on by a lack of daily drinking water.

The amount to drink depends on the individual. Having said that, the ‘one size fits all’ recommendation has been to take the figure for half the number of pounds a person weighs converted to ounces. For example a 140 pound individual would take 70 fluid ounces a day.

3. Carefully monitor your outlook on life

The world about you manifests as a consequence of ‘where you are at’ with life: Your attitude, thoughts, feelings, emotional state, in other words, outlook on life affects your health.

By monitoring these things and making the necessary appropriate changes illness prevention/reversal or anti-ageing can result.

Don’t underestimate this tip.

4. Exercise regularly

So many people would greatly improve on their health if they just did 15-20 minutes exercise a day. Exercise pays off with so many dividends when it comes to health.

Those benefits include: detoxification from sweating, feeling more alert, less weariness, improved cognitive function like increased intelligence, mood elevation, better sexual performance, disease prevention, weight control, sleep better and its activity through sports for example offers more fun in life!

5. Avoid toxicity

Don’t be fooled by the idea that all those toiletries, beauty products, aerosol sprays, lotions, environmental pollutants, contaminants and questionable food additives are only in tiny amounts so therefore won’t harm your health. The truth is when you put all those things together and add them up over time that’s not a tiny amount. Also toxic substances work together synergistically. Try avoiding them or get natural alternatives.

Watch out for those junk food habits… Besides high levels of salt, sugar and low nutrition value junk food sometimes can remain undigested in the intestinal tract for ages. This undigested material allows gut micro organisms to feast! They produce gas from the feasting while indigestible material still remains, hence the reason for some people having middle age spread or bloated bellies formed from years of junk food habit.

I hope that this article has inspired you too check out your health and take any necessary actions.

Overcoming Victim Consciousness: The Power Lies Within You!

By Paul A Philips

For generation upon generation the human race has been mislead into thinking that cause and effect in life over many different things is something external to them and in doing so have become victims through their own making: Victims because they have designated the responsibility and power of cause and effect over things to someone or some other external source.

How do you expect to be effective in life if you think that the circumstances are outside of your control..?

To overcome the pains and frustrations of victimhood, to take control of their lives or rightful ownership, humans must realize that responsibility is something to be embraced, not shrugged. Thus, the power lies within you and it is from this the shift from ‘victim’ to ‘victor’ will result.

Here are some examples to explain.

The medical/pharmaceutical establishment has intervened in human health to such an extent that many only see the destiny of their wellbeing in the hands of a doctor… Truth is, doctors know a lot about illness but because they have had little training in nutrition or naturopathy know far less than many people realise when it comes to health and well-being.

The solution is to take responsibility for your health. Health and wellbeing exists in making sure you get yourself good nutrition, have an effective outlook on life, exercise and avoid toxicity.

In many religions the human race has been misleading into thinking that God is something external to them: the “Big Boss in the sky” concept comes up a lot. How can people blindly accept the idea that this unimaginably big God created them as tiny, tiny creatures then demands that they worship Him and gets angry and jealous along the way..? If this is the case then God has quite an ego problem! The “Big Boss in the sky” concept is a deception. It has been manufactured to mind control and manipulate people into passivity for power; profit and political gain.

Who you really are is an extension of God, Goddess, All-There-Is, so the power to make things manifest comes from within you.

Whether through ignorance, apathy, deception or laziness… the human race has allowed uncaring, highly corrupt and sometimes even psychotic individuals to run their political affairs. To take back our rightful ownership of this planet certain people are needed look into political affairs and assert themselves as genuine, caring, independent individuals, separate to the corrupt major political parties currently running for office…

This will take time to go into effect but as increasing numbers of successful independent candidates form, the more effective they will be at expressing the real voice of We-the-people united in a common humane cause.

On similar lines with politics, the lawmakers have made certain rules and regulations favouring the rich and powerful with their agendas receiving few responses in the way of protest from the people at large… Again We-the-people need to assert laws based what is decent, fair and honest.

Basically, in education, young people have been brought up and trained to fit into the boxes made for them by the system: After leaving the system, like a cog-in-the-wheel they will fit into and function in one of these boxes designed to make money for the corporate driven greed machine…

Who you really are is an ‘individual.’ When someone or something like the education system programmes you to become a cog-in-the-wheel you lose your power by not being able to think, feel and be yourself. Thus you become a victim. Indeed the solution is to escape; think, feel and be yourself.

Then there’s those who have been mislead into believing that ET’s will rescue the human race and their sinking ship planet Earth. One of the hallmarks of a victims is that they think they will be rescued. True, the people and the planet need serious attention but ultimately only we can recue ourselves and Mother Earth…

In summary

Like all the above circumstances, the shift from victim to victor starts with the realization that the power lies within you.
